Beautiful mala with a bright red tassel is composed of traditional Rudraksha seed beads and wooden beads in turquoise and light natural color. It is handcrafted on the exotic island of Bali. Each bead of the mala is separated by knots. These knots symbolize care and patience, make it easier to move the beads between the fingers during meditation, and also serve a practical purpose – if the mala breaks, you will not lose any of the beads and it can be restrung.

Malas have been used for centuries during meditation, chanting mantras, reciting affirmations, or performing breathing exercises associated with counting beads. A mala can be worn as a necklace, wrapped around the wrist, used as a meditation tool, a protective talisman, or personal jewelry.

Traditional Buddhist prayer beads typically have 108 beads,  but the number of beads in our Balinese malas varies. Although the number 108 holds religious and cultural significance, the ways malas are used and the importance of the numbers can differ across practices and traditions.  Ultimately, wearing and using the mala is a personal and spiritual choice, as is the meaning attributed to it.

Beads

Turquoise is an important healing color and the symbol of heaven – the spirit as opposed to matter. In many civilizations, turquoise was considered a sacred color and used for protection. Turquoise is a blend of blue and green, combining the qualities of both: the calmness of blue and the serenity of green. It protects against negative influences, promotes creativity and clear thinking, helps to heal, and supports the body's defenses.

Rudraksha is the dried woody seed of the sacred Elaeocarpus granitus tree, tied to a legend of the god Shiva. According to tha tale, the god Shiva decided to meditate on humanity for a thousand years. At the end of his meditation, he was so filled with divine compassion that he began to weep. Wherever his tears fell, trees grew, and their fruits were named "God's Tears" – Rudraksha.

The fruits of Rudraksha enhance mental resilience, calm the mind, help against stress, and act as a powerful protection against negative energy. It is believed that the god Shiva sent these fruits to earth to benefit all who seek liberation and guidance on the path to enlightenment.

Tassel

The tassel of the mala is a distinctive feature, but it is more than decorative. Through the gathering of the threads of the necklace into a single tassel, it represents interconnectedness. The continuous strand symbolizes unity.

Red is a very powerful color. It is the color of life itself, love, fire, and blood, enhancing energy and vitality. Red symbolizes the basic root chakra. Our sense of reality and overall vitality depends on this chakra.
