Let yourself be wrapped in a beautiful sarong, made for you using the traditional methods by skilled artisans in Bali, Indonesia. Choose your unique shawl. You will be unmissable not only on the beach or by the pool.
If you are looking for a truly versatile fashion accessory, the sarong is the perfect choice for you. The possibilities of using a sarong are almost endless. You can wear it as an unusual wrap skirt or as an elegant lightweight dress with many tie variations. On hot days the sarong is the ideal garment as it is very comfortable on the skin, airy, and breathable. In cooler seasons, it serves well as a scarf or a shawl. It can also be used as a picnic blanket and it is also perfect as an original interior decoration.
Design of sarong
The traditional method of batik, practiced for centuries by the natives of Indonesia, is used to decorate the fabric. Wax is applied to parts of the fabric and then the fabric is dipped into a plant-based dye. After the wax is removed with hot water, a light-coloured pattern appears on the cloth.
Color
Colors have a deep symbolism in Balinese culture and play a significant role, which is also reflected in traditional Balinese clothing.
Green is the color of nature and balance and has a calming effect. It is in the middle of the color spectrum, harmonizing the warm red and cool blue ends. It promotes openness, sober thinking, compassion, and generosity. Green symbolizes the heart chakra, which governs our emotional balance, influencing emotions such as love, empathy, and kindness for others and for ousfelves.
Bali Sarong Tradition
Bali is known for its vibrant culture, of which clothing is undoubtedly an essential part. The sarong and its feminine variant, the kamben, is part of traditional Balinese attire, not only during religious and ceremonial events but also in everyday life.
Clothing in Bali is not just a matter of fabric and style but also a visual language. The forms and patterns of sarongs reveal a lot about their wearers and the communities they come from. Each region in Indonesia has its own unique style and motifs that reflect the cultural heritage of that area.
Each piece of Balinese clothing, with its carefully chosen colors and unique patterns, tells its own story. In other words, every single thread of Balinese attire and its unique design serves a dual purpose: it not only beautifies but also conveys a deeper spiritual message. Everyday clothing is thus transformed into an embodiment of faith and tradition.
The sarong also played a significant role in the matter of national identity and pride during the Dutch colonization period – wearing a sarong was a sign of patriotism and loyalty.
Sarongs are still considered an essential part of local culture and a national treasure in Indonesia today. Their use is seen as an expression of respect and a tribute to the artisans who make them.
