The symbol Om is a syllable composed of three Sanskrit sounds: a-u-m, with a representing the waking, material world. U here represents dream consciousness and m represents deep sleep, altered consciousness and enlightenment. According to Buddhist teachings, it is the primordial mysterious celestial sound, the resonance of the sacred harmony from which the entire universe arose.
