Product description Skull - Selenite 304 g
Selenite skull. Selenite is a translucent form of gypsum that gets its name from its pearly appearance. It is the "moon-like" lustre that links the stone to the Greek goddess Selene, the mistress of the moon.
The skull as a symbol has accompanied mankind in all corners of the world since time immemorial. It has been part of religious ceremonies, alchemical transmutations, magical rituals. In different cultures and religions, the meaning of the skull has varied, and so while in Mexico skulls are associated with honouring the dead, to the ancient Aztecs skulls were used for healing, and in other places they served as reminders of death and the impermanence of life. The symbol of the skull is still widely encountered today, often serving as a warning or indication of danger. After all, every young child knows the pirate emblem - a skull and crossbones. The good old Jolly Roger flag, however, did not only serve as a warning, but symbolized the motto "under one flag we serve, under one flag we die", and signified unity and loyalty.
Although a skull or skeleton may inspire fear or loathing, their representation has fascinated mankind for centuries, and looking into the eyes of a skull made of crystal deepens concentration and, according to some cultures, even induces a trance.
Caution: Selenite must not be exposed to water for long periods of time, or it will lose its luster.
Note:The length listed is more of a guideline.
