Tibetan prayer flags have 5 different colours representing the 5 elements of the earth. Red color - fire, green - wood, yellow - earth, blue - water, white - metal. Each flag carries the Buddha's teachings (mantras and sutras) and a representation of the LUNGTA. Lungta means "wind horse" and is the Tibetan symbol of good fortune, creative energy and well-being. Tibetans hang paper or cloth flags with the image of Lungta at important Buddhist sites, passes and especially on mountain tops. The wind carries the teachings from these flags around and into the minds of beings. Buddhists in Tibet believe that the wind constantly reads these mantras and carries them to the spirits in the mountains.
