Beautify your home with a unique set of wooden statues from Bali, Indonesia. The unique combination of traditional art of local carvers, extraordinary charm of suar wood and spiritual symbolism will bring a warm touch of exoticism and harmonious atmosphere into your interior.
Motif
The Three Wise Monkeys, traditionally interpreted as "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil", are in Buddhism an expression of the ethical principle of doing no evil and doing no harm, while rejecting the misbehaviour of others. They call for not engaging in evil thoughts in order to maintain inner peace and positivity. They teach us personal responsibility and the conscious decision not to be affected and influenced by negativity. Their representation is a symbol of wisdom, spiritual peace and abstinence from evil. The material itself - wood - also has symbolic weight. In many cultures, it represents growth, transformation and connection with nature. Natural imperfections give each statue character and personality.
Material
For the production of the statues, Balinese carvers used suar wood from the Saman Samanea tree, also known as Monkey Pod. The extraordinary elegance of this material lies in the beauty of the natural pattern and texture of the wood. Each piece thus acquires original beautiful shades from very light to dark brown. Due to the exceptional nature of suar, carvers are able to create enchanting works of art down to the smallest detail.
The Tradition of Balinese Carving
Wood carving is an ancient art form that reflects the distinctive style of talented Balinese craftsmen, and is a very popular souvenir from the "Island of the Gods". Art in Bali was and still is deeply rooted in the local religion. Hindu and Buddhist traditions first came to Java and then to Bali about a thousand years ago, and provided an important cultural foundation for Balinese society. Balinese culture has drawn inspiration from a variety of sources, including Chinese and Malay traditions. The combination of these influences has given rise to the Hindu-Javanese arts and crafts we know today.
The spiritual traditions of Bali are inextricably linked to artistic expression as a means of expressing loyalty and fulfilling obligations to deities.
Caring for wooden statues
Proper care of a statue will ensure that its beauty lasts for a very long time. Remove dust regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth to prevent it from settling. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause fading and cracking. Avoid contact with aggressive chemicals, do not use abrasive cleaning agents.
